BREADCRUMB

5th Grade Application Process and Information Night

International School Building

Hello 5th grade Families,

Choice School Enrollment for next year’s 6th grade classes at International School runs from December 9, 2024 through January 17, 2025. For families interested in learning more about the International School program, we will be offering an Information Night on Tuesday, January 14 beginning at 6:30 pm (see presentation).

Who can apply for a Choice School/Program?  Choice Schools/Program are only open to residents of the Bellevue School District*—the student must be physically living within the boundaries of the District at the time of application.  Per Washington State Law and District Policy, the nonresident children of eligible Bellevue School District employees may apply as resident students. (The parent/guardian is working for the Bellevue School District (i.e. teacher, principal, in a support function) and receives a paycheck from the Bellevue School District not that the parent/guardian works in the Bellevue community.)

As a Choice School in the district, International School offers the following:

  • International School is a family of 6th – 12th grade students, staff, and parents/guardians.
  • International School has a strong focus on academics with our seven-year core program and an extensive Senior Project–a capstone project that involves deep learning in an area of student’s choice, internships, service, and assessment by an expert panel.  The only world language offered is French.
  • In September, 6th grade students participate in a whole day 6th Grade Retreat to get to know one another and build relationships right away. In May, all students participate in Focus Week – a week of learning topics that are career oriented and to your interest.
  • Every student belongs to a small Community with grade-level peers that meets weekly to build relationships and engage with social activities with each other, in addition to learning about the school.
  • Every 6th grade student has a high school big buddy that mentors them and provide guidance throughout the year. 6th grade students and their high school buddies have lunches together to play games, hang out, and talk.
  • Our ASB and student organizations/clubs are very active. We currently have nearly 20 clubs for middle school students to join. Our ASB hosts schoolwide assemblies and socials throughout the year. You may learn more about our clubs HERE
  • Review the International School Program Information and Program Structure to learn more about the school.

Remember, you must apply if you want a chance to attend.  Applications are open from December 9 to January 17, 2025. A lottery will then be conducted for all sixth-grade applicants. Results of the sixth-grade lottery will be sent in February 2025. Siblings of current International School students will still need to apply by the lottery deadline in order to be considered for next year.
