Honor Society

Important dates for Spring 2024 (National Honor Society plus French, Art, Science, Math, and Technical):

  • Applications will be sent to eligible students the week of February 12, 2024.
  • For consideration, all applications must be completely submitted by 11:59pm Friday, March 8th.
  • Teacher recommendation forms should be turned in to the appropriate advisor by 1:40pm Wednesday, March 6th.
  • You will be notified of your acceptance or denial on Friday, April 5th.
  • The induction ceremony is Tuesday, April 30, 2024 from 6:00-7:30pm.

Thank you for your interest in International School’s Honor Societies! Almost all of our honor societies have the same deadlines and notification dates with the exception of Tri-M (Music) and International Thespian Society. Here are our typical timelines and dates each year:

Applications are available during the first two weeks of March

Applications are due on the third Monday of March

Result notifications are sent on the first Friday of April

Induction is on the last Tuesday of April


National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is open to students in grades 10-12 who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Furthermore, students must demonstrate sound character, have considerable leadership experience, and be very strong in community service.  75 hours of leadership and service are required, including a minimum of 60 hours of community service.

National Art Honor Society

In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding ability and interest in art. The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9–12 to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. The NAHS strives to support members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service.

The National Art Honor Society is open to currently enrolled Art students maintaining at least a 90% grade average in all art classes, with a 3.0 cumulative GPA, with purpose to foster excellence in the area of art at International School.

French National Honor Society

French Honor Society aims to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship to reward scholastic attainments, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of francophone culture and civilization, to promote and perpetuate international friendship, to reward efforts toward furthering solidarity in the French-speaking world. Members consist of students in grades 11-12 who meet academic standards (with emphasis in French) and are selected by teachers.

National Mathematics Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta)

Mu Alpha Theta is an organization dedicated to developing strong scholarship in mathematics, promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school, and encouraging intellectual thought.  Members shall demonstrate the ability to uphold qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.

Science National Honor Society

SNHS is a prominent scientific organization that will engender a new group of young thinkers who will be the future of industry, research, and scientific exploration for America. At International, members are expected to respectfully attend meetings and contribute their time and effort in at least one science-related club activity throughout the year. A minimum 3.5 GPA in science courses taken in high school is required.

National Technical Honor Society

For students enrolled in AP Computer Science or Principles:

  1. Must be enrolled in AP Comp Sci or Principles during the year in which the student is a member of NTHS
  2. Must have a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) or higher in all classes
  3. Must have a 3.5 GPA (unweighted) or higher in your CTE class

For students enrolled in any Python classes:

  1. Must be enrolled in Python 1 or 2 during the year in which the student is a member of NTHS
  2. Must have a 3.0 GPA (unweighted) or higher in all classes

  4. Must be an active member of a CTE-centered club (Ex. FBLA) with the support of the club advisor (recommendation letter)

International Thespian Society

The International Thespian Society is an honorary club for students in grades 9-12 who have demonstrated a commitment to academics and theater through a high level of involvement in Titan Theatre Productions. Admission is awarded based on drama points earned. There is no application.  The club supports the advancement of the theater arts in the International School Community.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Tri-M is the international music honor society recognizing students for their musical ability, academic excellence, school involvement, and community service. Here at International School, Tri-M brings together the most dedicated students from our three music programs, Band, Orchestra, and Choir. As a chapter we strive to better ourselves musically, facilitate a healthy learning environment, and contribute to our community through service and the joy of music.

Applications are reviewed in the Fall.
